Joel was born in Caracas, Venezuela and moved to South Florida at a young age. In 2014, he graduated from the University of Central Florida earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. Following graduation, Joel moved home to South Florida and worked at a Personal Injury firm as a legal assistant for two years. During that time, Joel was also a member of the Event Production Team at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale, assisting with the planning and execution of large race day events and concerts.

In 2020, Joel was selected as a Goodwin Scholar by the Admissions committee at Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law (“NSU”) and was the recipient of the Goodwin Scholarship. For the next three years Joel attended law school at NSU, where he participated in many extra curricular activities. Of note, Joel served on the General Board for the Nova Trial Association as a Teams Coordinator, participated in NTA’s Intramural Trial Competition, coached a team to third place in the IM Trial Competition, organized and participated in Nova’s Trial Advocacy Summer Institute, and competed nationally at the South Texas Mock Trial Challenge. Also during law school, Joel went abroad and studied Trial Advocacy at Oxford University in Oxford, England, learning the art of advocacy and storytelling from experts from all over the world.

During his time at NSU, Joel worked in Probate, Bankruptcy, and Immigration law. Additionally, Joel spent a semester with the Public Defender’s office, where he worked out of the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center doing client intake, assisting the Public Defender’s Office at Bond/arraignment hearings and other matters of criminal law. In May 2023, Joel graduated Cum Laude from NSU. Joel is an Associate at De Varona Law. Joel handles probate and commercial litigation matters.
